Ratty lives in the crater of a tall volcano. One day he spies a particularly delicious-looking fruit and he climbs a tall tree to reach it. From this high vantage point a spectacular view stretches before him - the world outside his mountain crater. In this big outside world, Ratty imagines, the fruit must be sweeter, the songs more beautiful and the other animals far more interesting and sophisticated. When Ratty ventures outside, nothing is quite as he expects, though he is thrilled to be asked to a dinner party by a very friendly crocodile.
